Self-Determination Pilot Projects: Real people, real lives 3/7

“What is Self-Determination?  It is giving us the responsibility for living our daily lives, and giving us enough support to make it work.”

“We don’t ask for help unless we really need it.  But that help is what makes it possible to have our own place and do the tasks we have to do every day.  Self-determination helps us with some expenses like bus passes and clothes for the children.  Medi-Cal pays for our son’s medical treatment at Loma Linda, but Self-Determination pays for the travel to get there.  With Self-Determination, we are independent; we can have our own place, be a family, and take care of our children.  We live a life that we are proud of.”
